NYC BALLET- FEBRUARY 26,2012

Summary: An essential feature of the dramatic arts of New York City is ballet. Ballet is a type of dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and was later developed in France and Russia. The New York City Ballet theater is one of the largest and most well known ballet companies in the world, which has contributed significantly to ballet. The company has a collection of more than 150 performances, many of which are considered dance masterpieces. The company was founded in 1948 by Lincoln Kirstein and has performed numerous popular dances, such as the Nutcracker. Fayçal Karoui, New York City Ballet’s music director for the past five years, will resign at the end of the spring season in June, because of other ballet obligations in France. He's not only a music director for the company, but also is the music director of the Orchestre de Pau in southwestern France, and for the Orchestre Lamoureux in Paris.

Analysis: Fayçal Karoui has been the New York City Ballet's music director for the past five years and is now resigning from his highly admired position. The company said the assistant music director, Andrews Sill, would take over his position until a new music director is found. Mr. Karoui, who became the music director in December 2006 has been credited for the orchestra’s impressive quality over the years and is greatly admired and respected in the ballet community.

Summary: New York City is the largest and most populated city in the United States, with more than 26,000 people living in each square mile.The city consists of five boroughs, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island. New York is a massive business center, occupying Wall Street, the center of one of the greatest financial districts in the world. It's also known for its immense tourist attraction, with approximately forty five million people visiting the city per year. The factors that make New York City so famous are numerous. The City exerts a significant impact upon media, art, fashion, entertainment, finance, technology and education. The city is also well known for its cultural diversity. Over 800 languages are spoken there, making it the most linguistically divergent city in the world. 


Analysis: New York City is the most populated city in the world. Many people are drawn to the city for many reasons. Being a city of immigration, many feel comfortable living here because of the cultural diversity. Many people are also drawn to the city because of it's immense impact on fashion, the arts and education. New York is successful in the tourism industry and will always be adored by people.

New York City

New York City is a fairly broad topic. New York is one of the most diverse and interesting cities in the world. It's not only America's business center, but it's also our country's main cultural center.  New York City is not only a colossal tourist attraction, but it is also a highly populated city. I chose New York as my topic for my blog because, there are so many amusing aspects of the city. From it's breathtaking sights to it's delectable food, appealing atmosphere, and it's extraordinary contribution to the dramatic arts. The question that i am researching is "What characteristics make New York an iconic city?"
